About the Author

Carter Wrenn was born in Virginia, grew up on a farm on the Virginia-North Carolina border, studied history at the University of North Carolina; a friend offered him a job in a campaign—he never meant to get into politics but thought, I’ve had enough college. Working with Tom Ellis and Senator Jesse Helms, he managed Ronald Reagan’s North Carolina Republican primary campaign in 1976— the first primary Reagan won. He led national independent campaigns for Reagan in 1980 and 1984, Jesse Helms’ Senate campaigns, and campaigns for other conservative senators, congressmen, and presidential candidates.
For twenty years, he has published a blog - Talking About Politics - along with Democrat Gary Pearce; Gary and Carter seldom see eye-to-eye on issues but have been friends for over two decades.
Carter and his wife, Page, married in 1984—they are blessed with two daughters, Emily and Cress.
